Karen Dawn Curtis' ceramic studio is based on the South Coast of Dorset in Weymouth. Karen has produced aesthetic art pieces for many years but has rediscovered throwing and become struck by the unique appeal of ceramics as functional art. Inspired by the landscape of the South West, Karen Dawn Curtis creates her Home collection to explore the point where beauty and practical purpose meet. Karen Dawn Curtis has always been fascinated by the naked surface of the clay, she adds oxides to the clay body to create the exterior colours without having to mask the natural texture of the material. In developing the glazes, she has discovered a rich palette of colours that are reminiscent of the South West itself. It is her hope that each piece she creates is a work of art that will be touched, used and treasured.
